The need for good occupational health is embedded in many of the influences of good business practice.
The CBI have said:
"Absence from work due to sickness costs UK business nearly £11bn a year, but the cost to society is nearer £23bn a year. Improved management of occupational health and delivery of publicly funded healthcare, together with action on the long term funding of healthcare, are needed to reduce this cost".

The Health and Safety Executive also believe that "good health is good business"
The HSE say that "no matter what business you are in, work-related illness should concern you as a manager. It can occur in any size of company--even the smallest". (E.g. garages and hairdressers)
